Car sales goes down in March 2009
The Indian car manufacturers have reported down domestic vehicle sales in March 2009 , compared to sales in March 2008.The sales figures for March 2009 remain low.
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) sold 7,368 units in March 2009 as against 8,895 units in March 2008. Similarly, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) posted a year-on-year decline of 15.8 per cent in domestic sales.
General Motors' and Tata Motors' sales too declined in March 2009 by -26.8 & 4.3 per cent respectively, compared to the same month last year. The exception is Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which posted a 30 per cent increase in UV sales, over sales in March 2008.
This is largely attributable to the success of its latest MPV, the Mahindra Xylo. Maruti's sales figures for March 2009 are also expected to be higher than last year's.
