Ford Plans To Start 3rd Shift at Chennai Plant
The Indian subsidiary of US based leading car maker Ford Motors is planning to increase the manufacturing capacity of its Chennai plant, a senior official of the company stated on Wednesday. Speaking to the reporters on the side lines of an event in Mumbai, Ford India Private. The company aims to start a third shift at our Chennai plant. He added that "We have already reached full capacity of 140,000 units at the plant."
Further poitnting at supply constraints, Mr. Boneham said that Ford is currently facing a supply shortage from parts makers, which have not been able to expand as fast as demand has grown. Considering the Ford India’s plans of adding eight new cars in its India portfolio in next five years, Ford is expected to come-out with a major capacity expansion at its Chennai facility, in next few years. Meanwhile, the company’s newest hatchback, Ford Figo, has been selected as the Indian Car of the Year 2011. The Ford Figo model has been one of the most sought after cars in the country since its launch in March this year, and over 60,000 units of this car have been sold in India, so far.
