Ford to offer Ecoboost four-cylinder engine options for every model by 2013

Ford vehicles in India do not, of course, have anything other than four-cylinder engines, but that's not the case for Ford cars in the US and in Europe, many of which are fitted with V6 and V8 engines.

However, in the future, Ford will invest heavily in the development of its turbocharged 'Ecoboost' four-cylinder engines, which, according to the company, will provide V6 levels of performance but with far better fuel economy.

Ford expects to be using around 500,000 units of its 'Ecoboost' four-cylinder engines per annum by 2013, for its worldwide operations. The company will still make V8s, though those fuel-guzzling monsters will largely be restricted to large pickup trucks, SUVs and the Ford Mustang sports car.
