Ford to raise 30% production this season
American car major Ford is all set to raise its production by 30% in order to meet the increasing demand of this festive season. Michael Boneham, President and MD Ford India reported that they have been producing about 130 vehicles a day but this will be increased to 174 vehicles a day this month.
As per him, there is an increase in the demand for the entry level sedan Ikon, mid-sized sedan Fiesta and SUV Endeavour. Moreover, advanced version of SUV Endeavour is also launched today. The car ranges from Rs 15.99 lakh and 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Though the company expects its overall vehicles sales in 2009 to remain more or less similar that in the last year at around 31,000 units, but also announced a $500-million investment plan spanning over three years to expand its manufacturing facility, setting up a new diesel engine plant and product development, including a small car for the Indian car market, is expanding into smaller cities this year.
The company has an installed production capacity of 1,00,000 units at its Chennai plant, which will be expanded to 2,00,000 units. Therefore, the company is working hard to hit the stones. Hope it achieves its target this year and fulfill its expansion plans.
