Honda Jazz nets five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

It seems small hatchbacks are getting safer than ever before. Yesterday, we reported that the Hyundai i20 has gotten a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and now it's the Honda Jazz which has also been given a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP. With this, the Jazz - which is due to be launched in India in June this year - matches the safety ratings of bigger Honda cars like the Civic and Accord.

'Real-world safety has always been an important consideration for Honda when developing new models. Honda's car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D plant analyses impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to avoid injuries for all parties,' says a press release from the company.

The Honda Jazz is actually fitted with a host of active and passive safety features and dynamic driving aids like Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA), active headrests, multiple air-bags and others.

The car also uses Honda's 'Advanced Compatibility Engineering' (ACE), which means its monocoque bodyshell is made of high tensile steel that disperses energy produced from a crash and protects its passengers.

The Jazz also features the latest in pedestrian protection. Its windscreen wiper pivots, which are designed to break away on impact, energy absorbing front wing mounts and bonnet hinges, and a clear area beneath the bonnet which allows it to crumple and absorb impact make sure that in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, injuries are minimised.
