Honda Recalls 1.35 Million Cars Globally

Japanese auto giant, Honda Motor Co., says it is recalling 1.35 million Fit subcompact cars globally to fix defective wiring in the headlights. A fault in the electric wiring between the handle switch and the headlights can cause the low beam to fail to light up, the company said. Of the affected vehicles, Honda said on Thursday it would recall 143,000 cars in the United States. Honda India will also recall 734,000 cars in Japan. The company said the Fit recall in Japan would cost the company around 3.6 billion yen ($42.8 million).

The Fit cars were built at Honda’s Suzuka factory in Japan between November 2001 and October 2007. The automaker said owners of these vehicles should bring them to a Honda dealer for inspection and for possible replacement of worn parts. Other most popular Honda cars in India are Accord V6, City Exclusive, Civic and CR-V. No accidents have been reported as a result of this problem, Honda said. Honda will also recall Fit cars in Europe and Asia, but declined to give further details.
