Indian-made Nissan Micra to be launched by mid-2010
Nissan has announced that the all-new Micra hatchback will be launched in the Indian market by mid-2010. The company, which is setting up a manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Cheanni, (in collaboration with Renault) at an investment of Rs 4,500 crore, says there will be no delays with launching its new cars in India.
However, while Nissan seems to be on track with its plans for India, cars from the Renault stable may not be launched in India till 2011 or later. The Mahindra Reanult Logan has not met with as much success as the company had earlier anticipated and Renault has, it seems, decided to proceed ahead with caution.
In the meanwhile, Nissan will launch petrol and diesel versions of the new Micra in India in 2010. The Japanese company will also export up to two-thirds of the cars it produces in India, from the Ennore port in Chennai. For the next 2-3 years, Nissan hopes to sell about 100,000 cars per annum in India and also export about 250,000 cars per year from its Chennai facility.
