Renault to set up ULC design hub in Mumbai

Renault, which will be launching an ultra low cost car (ULC) in partnership with Bajaj, will soon be setting up a design hub for this car in Mumbai. While Renault's other design centres worldwide may also provide smaller inputs for the UL project, all the primary work will be handled at the Mumbai centre, which is likely to be inaugurated early next week.

A dozen Indian designers are already said to be working on the Renault-Bajaj small car, which is expected to hit the market in 2010. The ULC will be priced at around Rs 1.25-1.50 lakh and is likely to be sold via Bajaj showrooms throughout the country.

The Renault-Bajaj small car will be manufactured in Chakan, near Pune, with an initial capacity of 400,000 cars per annum. Apart from India, Renault is also expected to sell this car in various other Asian, African and South American markets.
