British Army to use Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius hybrid has taken one more step towards ubiquity - the car will now be used by the British Army, which recently took delivery of 50 Prius cars. This is, according to the British Army, 'a part of its ongoing mission to reduce emissions of gases known to damage the environment.'
Of course, the Prius is not going to war anytime soon and is not replacing Land Rovers and other 4x4s just yet. Instead, the hybrid Toyota will be used as a 'non-deployable administrative vehicle' by certain divisions of the British Army.
'Taking delivery of this fleet of hybrid vehicles, whose carbon emissions are below the 2011 targets set to us at HQ Land Forces by the Government, means we are ahead of schedule in terms of what the White Fleet produces,' said Brigadier Mark Armstrong, who, as Director Infrastructure, leads the British Army's sustainable development projects.
