Toyota Faces 327 Lawsuits in the US Alone

Toyota Motor Corp has been facing tough times worldwide and its woes do not seem to be ending soon. The company faces 327 lawsuits in federal and state courts in the US alone owing to its faulty vehicles. The US government has chosen Los Angeles federal court to consolidate all law suites filed against Toyota to hold the hearing in one place. Toyota faces 150 lawsuits before a single federal judge in Santa Anna alone which is 30 miles away from its US headquarters in Torrence.

In a report filed Friday with U.S. District Judge James Selna, attorneys for the plaintiffs and Toyota listed 228 federal cases and 99 related cases in state courts. A judicial panel consolidated the federal cases in Selna's court last month. Selna's court is in Orange County, California, near Los Angeles and close to Toyota's U.S. headquarters. The next court date in the case is scheduled for May 13. Some legal experts have suggested Toyota could face $3 billion or more in civil damages.
