Toyota to develop range of small cars based on iQ platform

While Toyota's smallest car - the iQ - will not be coming to India, the Japanese carmaker will be developing other small cars on the iQ platform, and some of those cars are sure to find their way into this country.

The Toyota iQ is based on all-new architecture that was developed specifically for that car, and Toyota will certainly be looking at spreading out the cost involved, by developing more cars based on the same platform.

The Japanese company is expected to build up to three new small cars based the iQ platform, including the new Yaris, which will make it debut in 2011. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if Toyota's India-specific small car is also based on the iQ platform. The four-door small hatchback, which is Toyota is said to be engineering for the Indian market, is expected to hit the market by 2010.
