Toyota Woes Continue into Second Phase
It is a bad spell for Toyota Motor Corp that does not seem to be getting over any time soon. The US Senate has decided to have a second hearing of the Toyota case now. A panel of House Energy and Commerce Committee intends to hold a meeting with Toyota officials on May 06. The panel has asked the auto maker to consult a firm called Exponent Inc. to review possible electronic problems with Toyota cars. It has asked Toyota to present a complete document stating complete review of the existing problems.
Meanwhile, Toyota has decided to pay the US government fine of $16.4 million. The company will pay the fine without admitting the wrong doings in order to salvage its reputation following the massive recalls worldwide. Earlier this year, the US authorities had alleged that Toyota had deliberately hidden the information from regulators and had delayed the recalls causing damage to man and materials. Toyota has ordered another round of recall of 600,000 Sienna minivans over rusting spare tire holders. The company leaders have responded quickly to the issue and have ordered complete check over security concerns.
