Hyundai has launched its top-of-the-line luxury sedan - Equus - in China, where it's priced between 677,000-910,000 Yuan (Rs 48.13-64.70 lakh). A Hyundai that costs the equivalent of Rs 65 lakh?! Yes indeed, the Equus is Hyundai's intended competitor to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series, so the price shouldn't come as a surprise…
The Equus, which is also due to be launched in the US by mid-2010, comes with a choice of 4.6-litre V8 and 3.8-litre V6 engines. The Hyundai luxo-barge was launched in South Korea in March this year and has been well received in its domestic market. The Korean company is hoping its luxury car will do equally well elsewhere in Asia and in the US. In India, however, Hyundai's bigger cars simply haven't worked and the Equus isn't likely to be launched here in the foreseeable future.

Indian tyre exports down
According to the latest figures released by Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA), tyre exports from India showed a 25% decline during April-May 2009, at 736,070 units, as compared to 985,273 units in the year-ago period.
During April-May this year, truck and bus tyre exports stood at 282,247 units, as compared to 314,938 units in April-May 2008. LCV tyre exports went down from 309,450 units to 201,478 units, while passenger car tyre exports went down from 155,934 units to 125,542 units.
Exports account for approximately 15% of the total turnover of the Indian tyre industry, which is why this drop in exports is a worrying factor for tyre manufacturers in the country. Part of the reason why Indian tyre exports are declining is said to be aggressive strategies from Chinese and Korean tyre companies, which are also flooding the Indian market with their cheaper products.

First hybrid Lamborghini on the road by 2015
Lamborghini is working on a hybrid and it will hit the roads by 2015. The news comes from a recent interview with the German-language Automobilewoche, during which Winkelmann said he could easily imagine a small electric motor joining the cacophony of 10- and 12-cylinder engines for which the brand is famous.
Rather than going totally green, however, such hybrids would be serve more as environmental mitigators - improving fuel efficiency in urban areas where emissions are worst, but getting out of the way when it's time to hit the track or back country.
