Hero Honda June two-wheelers sales up 23.7%
Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML), the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer for eight consecutive years, keeps setting the benchmark higher with its relentless quest for excellence.
Riding on innovative strategies across functions, the company's June sales jumped 23.7 per cent to 3,65,734 units thereby registering its sixth consecutive month of over three lakh sales starting January'09. Hero Honda had sold 2,95,675 units of two-wheelers in June 2008.
Hero Honda's cumulative sales for the Q1 (April-June) of FY'10 rose by 25.1 per cent to 11,18,987 units of two-wheelers, thereby taking its share in the domestic motorcycle market to an all-time high of 59 per cent. The company's sales in the corresponding period last year was 8,94,244 units.
Mr. Anil Dua, Sr. Vice-President (Marketing & Sales), Hero Honda Motors Ltd said, "Our performance in the month of June, as indeed in the first quarter, is very satisfying, coming as it does on the back of a high base last year. Our strategy has been driven by innovation in every sphere of our activity - building a robust product portfolio across categories, exploring new markets, aggressively expanding the network and continuing to invest in brand building activities. Going forward, we will continue to stay true to our strategy, and carry on setting new benchmarks."
In an acknowledgement of the trust that customers across the country repose in the company, Hero Honda has recently been adjudged amongst the "Most Trusted Brands" in 2009 by Brand Equity Survey; and "Trusted Brand" (Motorcycles) 2009 by Reader's Digest magazine. It has also been honored with the Dun & Bradstreet, Rolta Corporate Awards 2008 in two-wheeler category.

TVS launches Flame SR125
TVS has announced the availability of its 2009 Flame model in the market under the brand TVS Flame SR 125. The new commuter motorcycle is loaded with a host of exciting features that has been further enhanced to delight its customers.
According to H S Goindi, President Marketing - TVS Motor Company, "The TVS Flame SR125 comes with significantly enhanced low and mid range power delivery and better noise, vibration and handling (NVH) characteristics. The revolutionary Controlled Combustion Variable Timing Intelligent (CC-VTi) technology provides an advantageous combination of power and mileage backed by stunning looks."
TVS Flame SR 125's well proven engine is propelled by a three valve, CC-VTi technology which ensures better pickup with optimum mileage and power. Developed with AVL Austria, this 125 cc, three valve engine is tuned to the ideal tumble-swirl port combination such that city riding on this machine is really smooth and comfortable.
The engine's hi-tumble reduces the need for constant gear shifting while the swirl port returns optimum mileage. The TVS Flame SR 125 is equipped with an electric start, weighs about 123 kgs and fires a single spark plug. The bike has a top speed at 95 kmph and churns out 10.5 bhp @ 7500 rpm.

TVS FLAME SR 125 boasts of several style statements including stylish headlamps with two position lamps and embedded turn signal lamps which give the bike a sporty finish. The 240 mm front disc brakes are complemented with a chic triangular exhaust that is not only unique but also enhances performance and delivers the smoothest of sounds and low emissions.
The bike flaunts an elegant backlit digital console that prominently displays the first of its kind intelligent mileage indicator (IMI), low fuel warning and service indicator. The rear end of the bike sports a dual lens tail lamp that is first in its class. TVS Flame SR 125 is the only Indian motorcycle to be equipped with a gadget boot which provides the facility of on-tank storage.
"The disc brake version is priced at 47,550/- ex-showroom comes in dual tone colours of red and blue along with an all black edition and is available at all TVS dealerships across the country. However, for those not wanting in the disc brake, the bike is also available with drum brakes. " Goindi said.
Historic Vauxhalls to be shown at 2009 Goodwood FoS
At the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, which will be held between 3-5 July this year, Vauxhall will exhibit two of its historic concept cars that haven't been put on public display (except for the company's Luton-based Heritage Centre) for nearly two decades.
The first of these cars is the XVR concept, which was first unveiled in 1966 in Geneva. This two-door sports-coupe features gullwing doors, pop-up headlights and all-independent suspension - high-tech stuff for the 1960s.
And the other car is the SRV concept, which was first shown at the 1970 Earls Court Motor Show in the UK. The car combines Italian supercar panache with four-door practicality, electric self-levelling suspension and other high-tech bits, some of which have actually made it to production Vauxhall cars over the last few years.
In addition to its concept cars, Vauxhall will also show its most powerful production car ever - the VXR8 Bathhurst S Edition, which is powered by a supercharged, 6.2-litre V8.

Apache RTR 180 Launched
TVS Motors has come up with a more powerful variant of Apache. The bike retains the basic lines of the current RTR & comes with all the high tech features: digital speedometer with top speed, 0-60 timer, trips, and other extra functionality plus stunning looks.
The Apache RTR 180. It is powered by a 177.4cc engine which generates 17 Bhp of maximum power with 15.5 Nm of maximum torque.
The new 177.4cc mill is a bored out variation of the 160cc mill, and has a longer stroke too. The new engine still remains an oversquare unit, but not so much so as the 160.
Power is up by 1.3 Bhp to 17 Bhp and the new engine produces 2.4 more units of twisting force at 15.5Nm. The peak power is produced at 8500 rpm, similar to RTR 160, though the peak torque is now produced at 6500 revs.
TVS has priced the new Apache RTR 180 competitively at Rs 63,900 (ex-showroom Delhi) and Rs 64,900 (ex-showroom, rest of India). It is available in 4 shades - Yellow, Black, Gray & Pearl White.

Audi Q5 Launched!
Audi India has launched the Q5 SUV in Indian Market today. The Q5 comes in two engine variants - a petrol and diesel each.
The petrol unit is the 2.0 Litre 4 Cylinder DOHC turbocharged intercooled unit with around 200 bhp of power on tap and a maximum of 350 nm of maximum torque starting from 1500 rpm all the way upto 4200 rpm.

The V6 Turbo diesel displaces 3.0 Litre and generates an impressive 240 bhp and an even more impressive 510 nm of torque. The same diesel even under the hood of the bigger Q7 provides effortless performance and its fair to say that in Q5 which is smaller and lighter, it will more or less electric!
Both the engines will be mated to a 7-Speed S-Tronic transmission with permanent Quattro all wheel drive. Audi claims a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 6.5 seconds for the diesel and 7.2 seconds for the petrol and top speed of 225 kmph and 222 kph respectively.
Bajaj Auto reports 8% decline in sales in May 2009
While most other two-wheeler manufacturers reported an increase in sales in May this year, Bajaj Auto logged an 8.13% decline in sales during the month. The Pune-based company's motorcycle sales during May this year stood at 165,049 units as against 179,649 units sold during May 2008.
Bajaj's total two-wheeler sales during May this year stood at 165,697 units, as against 180,935 units during May last year. The company's total sales (including three-wheelers) stood at 185,341 units during May 2009, as compared to 201,511 units during May last year. Exports went down from 60,215 units in May 2008 to 58,682 units during May this year.
Bajaj, which has already launched upgraded versions of its Pulsar 150 and 180 models, is expected to also launch a revamped version of the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi later this month. However, there is no word on the launch of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, which was earlier supposed to be launched during May 2009.
