A hybrid version of the Tata Nano is being planned, according to company chief Ratan Tata. Talking in the South Korean Maeil Business Newspaper, Tata said that the move was driven by a need to build cars that were as cheap to run as possible.

He further added that low priced goods would create stronger demand than high-end products in India, and said that this trend would be mirrored across the world, making the development of globally releveant cars crucial. However, he did not put a date on when a Nano Hybrid would be put in to production, or reveal any details of how it would run or what it would cost.

Toyota Corp is planning to showcase nearly 45 concept and production models at the upcoming Guangzhou Motor Show in China. There has been a tremendous increase in the demand of SUVs in the country, especially mid-sized models. The Lexus GX mid-size SUV has been on sale since 2003 but Toyota will use China's 2009 Guangzhou Auto Show for the world debut of its latest and advanced model of Lexus GX model.

Toyota is also planning to sell its latest updated Prius model in China from early 2010. This model will also be showcased at the China show. Toyota is targeting sales of 3,000 new Prius cars a year in the country. Toyota's other models that will be displayed at the show are Camry Hybrid and its executive car Crown that goes on sale in the country from next month.

There will be various concept models like FT-EV city model, urban plug in model Hi-CT, and FT-HS hybrid sports model. Toyota will be aiming at zero emission and fuel efficient cars that will highlight "the diversification of the energy sources".

After SBI and Union Bank, now Tata Motors has entered into an agreement with State Bank of Mysore to offer financing schemes for Nano customers. "This facility will be available at all branches of State Bank of Mysore and 329 sales touchpoints of Tata Motors.

This tie-up will provide a single window for both cars as well as car loans and will make car buying easier for the customers," the company said. State Bank of Mysore is one of the largest Public Sector Undertakings in the country catering to the needs of industry as well as retail segment.

State Bank of Mysore has 673 branches across India and offers car loans up to 85 per cent of the on-road price of the car for up to seven years, the statement added. State Bank of Mysore offers car loans up to 85 % of the on road price of the car, for tenure ranging up to 7 years, at a very competitive rate. This tie-up will provide a single window for both cars as well as car loans and will make car buying easier for the customers.

Hyundai has reiterated its stand to launch diesel variant of i20 in 2009. Hyundai which currently sells i20 with a 1.2L kappa petrol engine in India may start selling i20 diesel by the end of 2009. In international markets i20 is offered with 1.4L and 1.6L diesel engines.

To qualify for the small car excise norm, Indian i20 diesel is likely to get 1.4L engine. But Hyundai remains tight lipped. "We will launch the i-20 diesel for the domestic market this year. But we are yet to finalise the engine size," said Mr Arvind Saxena, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India said.

to roll out first of its KTM bike during the festive season this year. The new KTM bike from Bajaj will mark company's foray in the 750cc segment in India. The bikes will be launched as Completely Knock Down (CKD) units by the second half of the current fiscal.

Bajaj has 25 percent stakes in the Austrian bike maker, KTM. The company feels that the Indian market has now matured to absorb the super bikes in India. It is also planning to bring 250cc Kawasaki Ninja 250R to India which will be priced around Rs. 2.5 - 3 lakh.

Bajaj will also assembler 690cc SuperMoto and 690cc Duke at its Chakan plant in Pune. Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj, said, "Our Chakan plant is the most technologically advanced plant in the country. We have the ability to assemble most products at the Chakan plant."
