Car exports from India up 57% in FY2008-09
According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger car exports from India stood at 331,539 units in FY 2008-09, as against 211,112 units in the year-ago period - an increase of 57%.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) put in the best performance, with exports going up from 144,440 units in 2007-08 to 235,345 units in 2008-09 - an increase of 63%. The numbers, for Maruti Suzuki, went up from 51,916 units to 68,834 units - an increase of 32.5%.
Two wheeler exports from the country went up from 819,713 units in 2007-08 to 1,004,174 units in 2008-09 - an increase of 22.5%. And overall vehicle exports (including commercial vehicles) went up from 1,238,333 units to 1,530,660 units - an increase of 23.6%.
